Water, the best Sadaqa Jariya: why a well changes everything
A well never stops: every sip keeps counting for you. Here is why water is the finest ongoing charity, and how to have your well built with Sanabil.

We turn on a tap without a second thought. For millions of families in Bangladesh, India or Niger, clean water is still a walk of several kilometres, a daily chore, sometimes an illness. A well changes that at once, and for a long time.
“The best charity? Water.”
Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet ﷺ which charity was best for his late mother. He answered: “Water.” Sa'd then dug a well and said: “This one is for the mother of Sa'd.” (reported by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i).
A well is a Sadaqa Jariya, an ongoing charity: as long as the water flows, the reward continues, for you or for the person in whose name you had it built.
What a well concretely changes
- Health: clean water protects children from waterborne diseases, the leading cause of child mortality in these regions.
- Time: women and girls, who carry the burden of fetching water, get hours back for school, work or family.
- Dignity: a village with its own water point no longer depends on anyone.
How it works with Sanabil
- You choose the country of the well, then the name to engrave: yours, a parent's, a deceased loved one's.
- We carry out the drilling on site, with a plaque bearing that name.
- You receive the video of the completed well on WhatsApp. Every service is reviewed and approved by our Sharia Board.
